Deadlifting is one of my favorite things, and is something that I have all of my clients do. I base a lot of my personal training around functional movements like squats and deadlifts, and I enjoy powerlifting; so when a client told me that there was a deadlifting competition taking place in June of 2018 (and really, a few previous Junes), I got really excited.
Women’s Strength Coalition is a non profit that puts on this event annually, known as “Pull for Pride,” a charity deadlifting event meant to raise money for homeless LGBTQ youth (and other LGBTQ charities) through a shared passion of deadlifting. The objective is to raise as much money as you can, and then match that amount in your total across three deadlift attempts. Example: I’m trying to raise $1500, which would mean the 3 lifts I’m getting at the event would each need to average 500 lbs.
So, where do you come in? Like I said, it’s a charity fundraiser that goes to a great cause that is very close to me. I have created a campaign on the fundraising platform “Crowd Rise” in order to raise money for the event! I’m participating in Pull for Pride San Diego (though this is a nationwide event), and the specific charity being benefited from us there is the San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. If you’d like to make a donation, please go to this link: https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/gabriel-devine-is-pulling-for-pride/tailsdevine
It’s also worth noting that this event has gotten me back into powerlifting; and my goal was to be able to hit 500 lbs. again before the event. . . But two weeks out, I’m at 545 lbs. I may PR at the event.
