{"id":36,"date":"2011-08-31T12:30:55","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T20:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gahealthguide.wordpress.com\/?p=36"},"modified":"2011-08-31T12:30:55","modified_gmt":"2011-08-31T20:30:55","slug":"36","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/2011\/08\/31\/36\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitness Myths:  Spot Reduction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Gabriel<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 My brother once said something to me that was incredibly true, and is something I still impart on people today:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Abs are made in the kitchen&#8211;\u00a0 Not in the gym.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How true this is, this statement about spot reduction \/ spot training.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the question:\u00a0 How often have you seen an infomercial for a product claiming to give you rock hard abs?\u00a0 How many times have you yourself done more crunches in the name of getting a six pack &#8220;faster&#8221;?\u00a0 Would you be shocked to hear that this is impossible?\u00a0 For those veteran gym rats, you won&#8217;t be shocked at all, but for others, this will become a revelation of sorts.<\/p>\n<p>All of those products that claim to give you insane results with minimal effort (Or a six pack in just days) come with a nutrition plan, and they do because the manufacturers know the true key to getting a six pack&#8211;\u00a0 Body fat percentage, not spot training.\u00a0 No matter how much you train a particular muscle, whether it be your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exrx.net\/Muscles\/Quadriceps.html\" target=\"_blank\">quadriceps<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exrx.net\/Muscles\/RectusAbdominis.html\" target=\"_blank\">rectus abdominis<\/a>, or your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exrx.net\/Muscles\/TricepsBrachii.html\" target=\"_blank\">triceps brachii<\/a>, if you&#8217;re looking for the chiseled look, you will need to adjust your diet and lower your body fat percentage.<\/p>\n<p>But why, you may ask?\u00a0 Well, simply put, if you&#8217;re doing crunches, you&#8217;re not burning fat around your waist.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re doing the preacher curl, you&#8217;re not burning fat in your upper arms.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re bench pressing, you&#8217;re not burning fat in any part of your body&#8211;\u00a0 What you&#8217;re doing is training the muscle beneath the fat, which won&#8217;t allow the muscle to show through any better;\u00a0 Rather, it&#8217;s going lead to a potentially bulkier appearance, as the fat atop the muscle will bulge more with more mass beneath it.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm7.static.flickr.com\/6210\/6093350398_4a66991116.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Pictured: A good ab workout, but not the key to a six pack.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So. . .\u00a0 You want a six pack?\u00a0 Spend more time in the kitchen, because adding a second routine for abs to your workout is not going to cut it alone.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Alissa<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0 Also, remember the importance of cardio in losing body fat. \u00a0Nutrition is key, but cardio is a close second. \u00a0With the right combo of nutrition and cardio you will have a six pack in no time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gabriel:\u00a0 My brother once said something to me that was incredibly true, and is something I still impart on people today: &#8220;Abs are made in the kitchen&#8211;\u00a0 Not in the gym.&#8221;
