{"id":170,"date":"2011-12-01T09:30:03","date_gmt":"2011-12-01T17:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gahealthguide.wordpress.com\/?p=170"},"modified":"2011-12-01T09:30:03","modified_gmt":"2011-12-01T17:30:03","slug":"body-type-what-does-this-mean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/01\/body-type-what-does-this-mean\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Body Type?&#8221;  What does this mean?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever heard someone refer to a body type?\u00a0 If not, I am sorry, because knowing your body type will help you identify various problems in your quest for goals.\u00a0 To start, there are 3 somatypes (Body types):\u00a0 Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph.\u00a0 These were developed as part of the theory of constitutional psychology by William Sheldon (Though the study of Body Types goes as far back as B.C.E.).\u00a0 While those familiar with the theory may know that this study is generally considered &#8220;dated,&#8221; it is still widely referenced in the worlds of fitness and bodybuilding.\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth noting that you can be a mixture of two types, but some believe that this can&#8217;t be&#8211;\u00a0 That you can only be a &#8220;pure&#8221; type.\u00a0 Moving on!\u00a0 By reading about each type, you&#8217;ll be able to determine which you are.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>Ectomorph<\/strong> (Ecto, for short) is someone who possesses the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Narrow Hips and Shoulders<\/li>\n<li>Thin Legs and Arms<\/li>\n<li>Very Little (To None) body fat<\/li>\n<li>Thin and Narrow Chest and Abdomen<\/li>\n<li>Small Bone and Joint Structure<\/li>\n<li>Ultra Fast Metabolism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ectos are those people who are naturally cut, even though they have very little muscle.\u00a0 It is incredibly difficult for them to gain weight as their metabolism moves so quickly.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>Mesomorph<\/strong> (Meso, for short) is someone who possesses the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Large Head, Broad Shoulders and a Narrow Waist<\/li>\n<li>Gains Muscle Easily<\/li>\n<li>Gains Fat More Easily Than Ectos<\/li>\n<li>Very Little Body Fat<\/li>\n<li>Naturally Muscular Body<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mesos are the envy of almost everyone at the gym.\u00a0 They are typically very cut, very muscular people who have to exert very little effort to gain weight, lose fat, and stay within those goals. Mesos are considered genetically gifted as their body is naturally wired to be very lean and muscular.<\/p>\n<p>On a tangent. . .\u00a0 There&#8217;s a bit of advice that bodybuilders will often remind many people of:\u00a0 &#8220;Never ask for advice from the really cut guy at the gym.&#8221; Chances are, he&#8217;s a mesomorph who has to work only 1\/10th as hard as you to see more results than you.<\/p>\n<p>An <strong>Endomorph<\/strong> (Endo, for short) is someone who possesses the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wide Hips and Narrow Shoulders<\/li>\n<li>Wide Bone Structure<\/li>\n<li>Slow Metabolism<\/li>\n<li>Gains Muscle and Fat Very Easily<\/li>\n<li>Difficult to Lose Fat<\/li>\n<li>Soft and Round Body<\/li>\n<li>Often Possess Slim Ankles and Wrists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An Endo is someone who has a very difficult time losing weight, and typically, is naturally overweight.
