{"id":1119,"date":"2014-08-17T08:00:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-17T15:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/?p=1119"},"modified":"2014-08-11T21:29:26","modified_gmt":"2014-08-12T04:29:26","slug":"live-a-healthier-lifestyle-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/17\/live-a-healthier-lifestyle-for-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Live a Healthier Lifestyle For You!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time, I had a nutrition client tell me they were considering doing a physique competition as a way to motivate themselves to\u00a0lose weight quickly.<\/p>\n<p>I told them this was not a good idea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why would you discourage someone?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not very often that I would discourage someone from pursuing a goal. \u00a0In fact, that&#8217;s the only time I&#8217;ve ever done it, and here&#8217;s why: \u00a0Setting an extreme goal sets you up for failure. \u00a0It&#8217;s the same reason why crash diets don&#8217;t work; there&#8217;s a time limit on it&#8211; \u00a0A finish line. \u00a0The mentality this client had was that this would be a way to excuse an extreme drop in Calories for a short period of time to prepare for the show.<\/p>\n<p>The question is, what happens after the show? \u00a0What&#8217;s the &#8220;exit strategy&#8221;? \u00a0Without developing a healthy relationship with food, and without understanding how to live a lifestyle of moderation, the second the finish line is reached, the pendulum could swing wildly in the opposite direction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What if they kept up the weight loss?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of course, continuing to live in a Calorie deficit isn&#8217;t the answer either. \u00a0That can lead to many different issues, including malnutrition, eating disorders, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what did you advise they do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I advised them to lose weight at an appropriate, moderate pace without restricting themselves from any foods. \u00a0I advised exploring the idea of a competition down the road, but that should be done as a genuine desire to accomplish doing a show, not as &#8220;thinspiration&#8221; to\u00a0achieve extreme weight loss.<\/p>\n<p>Extremism is easy; moderation is difficult. \u00a0From a food psychology standpoint, extremism is unhealthy, and moderation is healthy. \u00a0Practice moderation&#8211; \u00a0Enjoy yourself and the food you eat while achieving whatever goal you truly want. \u00a0Not only will this set you up for success, but you&#8217;ll be much happier in the long run! \u00a0Think about it: \u00a0Are you happier when you get to eat desserts \/ enjoyable foods in moderation, or when you completely restrict yourself from sweets?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1120\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Original_-Buttermilk_Pancakes.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1120\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1120\" src=\"http:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Original_-Buttermilk_Pancakes-300x178.png\" alt=\"One of the sources of my happiness.\" width=\"300\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Original_-Buttermilk_Pancakes-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/devinephysiques.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Original_-Buttermilk_Pancakes.png 617w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the sources of my happiness.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Plus, transitioning from a flexible diet for weight loss to one of maintenance means the only thing that changes is the amount of energy (Calories) you consume; \u00a0this limits the chances of binges, Yo Yo-ing, and disordered eating patterns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once upon a time, I had a nutrition client tell me they were considering doing a physique competition as a way to motivate themselves to\u00a0lose weight quickly.
